William Alfred Smith Senior, born June 16, 1947 in Frederick County, Maryland, peacefully passed away on May 2, 2024, surrounded by family in his adopted hometown of Sun City West, Arizona.
AIectionately known as Bill, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Wanda L Smith, his children Patty, Terry, Bill, Nathaniel (Cora), and John (Eliza), grandchildren Amanda (Will), Gavin, Morgan, and Zachary (Andrea), great-grandkids Khyrin, Kamron, Karon, Clara, and Molly, along with his nieces and nephews.
Bill is celebrated as a true renaissance man, excelling both professionally and as ahobbyist. He was an accredited Master Steam Fitter, HVAC and Refrigeration Engineer, Howard County Building Inspector Supervisor, Chesapeake Bay barge crewmember, and served as a Lieutenant with the Lansdown Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years. Bill’s work ethic, skillset, and problem-solving skills were acknowledged by all who knew and worked with him, from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay to the deserts of Saudi Arabia. In addition to his diverse professional endeavors, Bill pursued a myriad of hobbies with passion and intensity. He was an accomplished Master Scuba Diver, private pilot, adept at wood and metal fabrication, AutoCAD, photography, and more. His memberships in various professional and amateur associations, including the Masons, Elks and Moose lodges, and the Sun City West Metal Club, reflected his broad interests and connections within the many communities in which he lived.
Known for his generosity and expertise, Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge. His family and friends often sought his counsel and comfort, appreciating his wisdom and unwavering support.
As Bill reunites with his parents, William Alfred Turner Smith and Geraldine Smith, in heaven, along with other loved ones and his beloved pets, we mourn his absence while celebrating his remarkable life and contributions.
May his legacy of kindness, knowledge, and compassion endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
