William P. “Bill” Ryan, 96, of Sun City, AZ passed away January 3, 2011 of natural causes. Mr. Ryan was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. He was the eldest son of William R. & Antonette Paul Ryan, both natives of Duluth. Mr. Ryan married his wife, Trudy, on July 22, 1943 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He is survived by his three daughters, Mary R. Brinkmann of Somers, NY, Margaret A. Ryan of Portland, OR & Catherine E. Ryan Quint of Machias, ME, one grandson, three granddaughters, six great grandsons & three great granddaughters, plus a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Ryan was preceded in death by his wife Trudy, his brother John R. of Wilmington, DE, his sisters Mary R. Gentile of Denver, CO and Helen T. Ryan of Arlington, VA. Mr. Ryan was a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he also did graduate work. Mr. Ryan retired in 1982, from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York, NY where he was director of contracts. Mr. Ryan served for 51/2 years in the Army Engineers in WW II, much of it as a company commander in the South Pacfic. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ. Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
