Walter Roder, 78, of Sun City passed away Dec. 31, 2008. He was the son of John and Nellie Roder and spent his young life in Neilsville, WI. In the early 40's the family moved to Waukesha, WI. Wally enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After the war, instead of jumping out of airplanes he earned his pilot's license and built his own. The first one was an Acrosport which he flew for 13 years. The second was a Pitts Special after settling in Sun City. It was 99% completed when Wally suffered a heart attack which ended his flying days. He was a member of the Experimental Aviation Assn., the Sun City Roller Skating Club, the Saturday Night Dance Club, and the Metal Club of Sun City. Wally is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marimae. He is also survived by 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service and burial will be in Mayville, Wisconsin.
