Virginia Lewis

December 31, 1969 — February 24, 2015

Age 94, of Sun City AZ passed away peacefully on February 22, 2015 with her loved ones at her side, her son Bernard Stachelek and his wife Elizabeth and her caregivers, for the last six years Nick and Joanna Iancu of "EMMA"Assisted Living, from complications from her nine year battle with Alzheimer's. Virginia was born February 25, 1920, in Chicago IL, to Alfred A. Franz and Antoinette Kordak and was the fourth of seven children. She was preceded in death by her first husband Bruno (Bernard) Stachelek, her second husband, who was her soul mate and love of her life, Finch A. Lewis, her daughter Geraldine Joyce Gibson III, her sisters Matilda, Delphine and Rita. Her sister Geraldine Ryczek. Her brothers: Alfred, Leonard and Richard. She is survived by her grandson Harry Gibson IV, son Bernard Stachelek and his wife Elizabeth plus many nephews and nieces. Family was always important to her. When she graduated from grammar school during the worst of the Depression she realized her families need for money to survive was more important than continuing her education. So at the age of 14 she lied to employers about her age, this allowed her to gain full employment to support her family until she married in 1940. In 1941 she had a son Bernard and in 1944 had a daughter Geraldine. She was a factory worker from 1934 to 1982. In 1975 she acquired the position of lead experimental technician for the development of the first commercial laser printer for the Teletype Corporation. In 1982 Virginia and her husband Finch Lewis moved to Sun City AZ. They both loved Golf and played every day until 2000. Throughout her life she fought for Equal Rights, fought to end sexual discrimination and sexual harassment. Virginia will be missed but will always be in the hearts of her family and friends. The family wishes to express a special tribute to AZ Family Hospice for their support. Family visitation will be private. Interment will be a Graveside Service at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix, AZ.
