"Well done, my good and faithful Servant. ... enter thou into Joy.." Matthew 25:23
Theodore “Ted” Vaile went to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2019 (three days after his 92nd birthday) while in his Sun City West, Arizona, home. Ted will forever be remembered by his wife, Betty (McCauley), after 68 years of marriage (August 1950). Ted is survived by children, Charles Vaile, Teresa Wood and Bonita Worley; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and a nephew.
Ted was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Kokomo to Theodore Sr. and Juva Bell-Vaile. He graduated Kokomo High School in June 1945, going directly into the Army, serving two years as an M.P. in Italy until 1947.
Back home, he joined Delco Electronics Engineering Department, where he worked over the next 40 years (retiring in 1987). Ted and Betty moved to Peru, Indiana, with their three children in 1959 and later retired to Sun City West, Arizona, in 2003. Granddaughter Christine was his caregiver, helping with everyday challenges and assisting through the oral cancer that eventually took him home.
Ted and his wife, Betty, were active in the Square Dance community throughout the Midwest. He was a square dance caller for 50 years while also teaching new callers and dancers. They established the Circus City Paws & Taws Square Dance Club in Peru, where they entertained for the Senior Living, built Circus Parade floats, participated in Peru’s Heritage Days Festivals, local dances and group camping.
Ted belonged to the American Legion, was a member of Callerlab, ISDCA, and IDA, in the GM Retirees Club of Arizona, and volunteered five years on the SCW Posse. Ted enjoyed working on old cars, reading, and World War II airplanes.
Ted greeted everyone with a sunny smile.
There will be a celebration of Ted's Life on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Bunker Hill UMC (100 W. Broadway, Bunker Hill, IN 46914). Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. Prayer and military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at Albright Cemetery, just south of Kokomo.
