Susan Ann Rabensteiner Flamm was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 24, 2008. Susan was born on December 12, 1948 at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, and died at the Sherman Hospice House, Hospice of the Valley, on the campus of Mayo Clinic Hospital, in Phoenix, Arizona. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Gus and Olga Crozat Rabensteiner, and is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Martin B. Flamm. She is also survived by her sister, Gail Calderone, stepsons Erik Flamm and Ian Melissa Flamm, granddaughter Freya Flamm, cousins Wayne Terry Crozat and Roger Donna Crozat, aunt Shirley Crozat, and nephew Anthony Calderone. Susan was a radiological technologist, and managed her husband's office practice in Metairie, Louisiana prior to their retirement. Following Hurricane Katrina, she and her husband relocated from New Orleans to Sun City, Arizona. A proficient home remodeler and gardener, Susan created their perfect retirement home prior to her succumbing to pancreatic cancer, which she fought bravely for almost two years. Susan asked to be remembered for her love for her husband, family, friends and animals. She loved New Orleans dearly, and missed it terribly. Her interests included gardening, home design, cooking, and caring for her red footed tortoises, Redfoot, Sweetie and Ruby. Susan loved to reminisce about her travels with her husband, her favorite trips being to Africa, Antarctica and Polynesia, including Moorea, the Marquesas Islands and Easter Island. Things that brought her solace were prayer, flowers, and playing with her pets. Some of her favorite things included Louisiana food and music, filet mignon, Maine lobster with butter, Coke, pizza, Mexican food, and the smell of roses. She also loved watching television soap operas, bible and archeology shows, and political talk shows, which she vociferously talked back to when she disagreed with what was being said. She was never shy. Susan will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness to others. She will be sorely missed by her family and the many friends who she leaves behind. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division Street, Metairie, LA. A graveside service and burial will be at 2 P.M. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Metropolitan Funeral Services of Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or at www.hospiceofthevalley.org. Susan, we will love and miss you always.
