Sister McCarthy, SFCC

Katherine J. McCarthy, of Sun City, AZ, born July 2, 1934, died on March 13, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine McCarthy. She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament High School in Manhattan, NY, St. John’s University in Brooklyn, NY, and Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. From 1958 – 1982, she served as a Benedictine nun at Regina Laudis Abbey in Bethlehem, CN. From 1985-2000, she taught high school English and served as a librarian in Chinle, AZ on the Navajo Reservation. She retired to Sun City in 2006. Sister Katherine was a committed member of the Sisters for a Christian Community. Sister Katherine is survived by her sister, Mary Rose (Thomas), their children, Thomas, Joanna, and Stephen (Jennifer, daughter Julia), and her brother, Joseph McCarthy (Ann) and their two children, Sundae (Jay, daughter Shae) and Caitlin. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Church of St. Joachim and St. Anne, Sun City, AZ. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity in her memory would be appreciated.
