Sieger "Zig" Kwiatkowski, Jr., 75, of Phoenix, AZ passed away early Monday morning, May 26, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. He was born September 1, 1932 in Paterson, NJ to Sieger and Lottie Kwiatkowski. The oldest of the family, and only son, he served in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. On October 5, 1957, he married his best friend, Lorraine Gillis. Zig graduated from Montclair State College in 1954 with a BA, and in 1959 earned his Masters. He taught Chemistry and Physics at Fair Lawn High School until moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1966, where he began teaching at Moon Valley High School. When Apollo High School opened, Zig became the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal of Student Activities. He returned to Moon Valley High School several years later as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, where he remained until his retirement. Zig was very active in professional organizations. He is a lifetime member of N.E.A. as well as the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Zig is the founding Father of the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association AIAAA. He is also the 1st inductee of the AIAAA Hall of Fame. Sports was one of Zig's main passions in life. He played high school and college basketball and baseball, being drafted by the New York Mets, New York Nets and the New York Yankees, but did not play due to knee injuries. Zig is an inductee of the Montclair State University Hall of Fame as well as a member of the Alumni Association. On the weekends you could always find him playing golf, baseball or tennis, or on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren, his greatest joy. Zig is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, children Rick Cindy Kwiatkowski and Lisa John McMorrow, and sisters Florence Jim Dailey and Patricia Chuck Entrup. In addition, he leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Michael and Mark Kwiatkowski; and Deven, Kiera, Marina and Taryn McMorrow, as well as many nieces and nephews. Zig was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 2:00PM at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Avenue, Sun City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
