Sara Rizzi

Sara Ann Rizzi, 96 years old, passed away peacefully under hospice care on June 18, 2020 in Phoenix, AZ. Born on May 14, 1924 in Clearfield, PA. to Antonino and Antonina Curtorillo, she moved to Niles, OH. as a child and was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Niles where she was active in church and school functions. In 1980 she moved to Sun City West, AZ. and joined Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where she was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a participant of Divine Mercy Devotions. She was employed at Rio Salado Community College as a registrar for many years. After retirement Sara looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and weekly casino visits with friends. Her husband, Francis Rizzi, whom she married in 1949, passed away after 54 years of marriage in 2003. She will be deeply missed by her children Richard (Betse) Rizzi of Boardman, OH., Ronald (Maryanne) Rizzi of Hilton Head Island, SC., and Maureen (Paul) Paonessa of Phoenix, AZ., nine grandchildren, Molly (John) Slaina, Katie (Craig) Brocklehurst, Kelly (Brian) Brooke, Kara (Jeff) Hehr, Megan (Jordan) Reynolds, Mary Rizzi, Sara (Joel) Mora, Patrick (Jackie) Bemis, Julieann Bemis and nineteen great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by five siblings, Mary Santinoceto, Angeline Accordino, Mardeen Santinoceto, Phillip Curtorillo, and Margaret Danes Flask. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Prince of Peace Church in Sun City West, AZ. on Thursday, June 25 at 10:00 am. Friends will be received at 9:15 am at the church prior to the mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, AZ. Material tributes may be made in Sara’s name to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ. or Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Sun City West, AZ.
