ROY SLEZAK, JR. passed away on March 14, 2014 at Golden Hearts Assisted Living Center in Glendale, Arizona. Interment arrangements are pending. Roy was born on December 24th, 1926 to Roy Sr. & Gladys (Everling) Slezak in Orient Iowa. He graduated from Orient High School and then attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. After graduation, Roy began working as a teacher and a coach in Arispe, Iowa. On November 23, 1949 he married Carolyn Jean Strauss in Creston, Iowa, were they lived for the next 33 years. During this time Roy worked for Anderson-Erickson Dairy and several local businesses and then later resumed teaching and coaching in the Cromwell School system. Upon consolidation of the Cromwell & Creston schools, Roy left the education field and began working with Jean, at Sid Strauss Ready-to Wear which they owned and operated until 1982, when they moved to Sun City West, Arizona. Roy continued to work in administrative positions with local real estate companies, until retiring. Roy is survived by his children, Stephen (wife Ruth) of Iowa City, Iowa; Barbara (husband Michael) of Glendale, Arizona; Daughter-in-Law Sue Slezak of Phoenix, Arizona; and David (wife Maureen) of Phoenix, Arizona. Grandchildren include Michael, Sandy, Rachel, and Keira Slezak. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Shelby of Bethany, Missouri; In-Laws, Linda Hartsock of Creston, Iowa and Betty & Bill Strauss of Panora, Iowa. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, a son Gregory Vincent Slezak, brothers-in-law Nic Shelby and Jim Hartsock, and parents-in-law, Sidney and Barbara Strauss.
