Roy Franklin Goss
June 27, 1937-June 22, 2020
Roy Franklin Goss, 82, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 22, 2020. Roy was born June 27, 1937, in Osawatomie, Kansas. He leaves behind his wife Brenda of 41 years; his sister Mary Ann Kennedy; his son Ronald Franklin Goss; his daughter Megan Marie Parr and her husband Joshua Parr; 7 grandchildren: Toni, Katelynn, Laura, Kyle, Easton, Luke, and Paisley (due 8/20/20); 4 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 6 great-nieces; 5 great-nephews and many, many friends.
Roy graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1955. He joined the Air Force shortly thereafter serving a stint as an airplane mechanic in Spokane, Washington. After leaving the Air Force, Roy settled in the Phoenix area in 1959 and began his career as a drywall hanger. In 1979, he met his wife Brenda Scott and they were married on June 8, 1979. In January 1980, he and his business partner Dwight Ludlow formed Westside Drywall, which is still operating to this day and will always be a part of Roy’s legacy.
Roy’s passion for life had no boundaries. For example:
• Racing sand rails
• Getting his pilot’s license
• Buying his first Harley
• Going to many NASCAR races in Phoenix, Talladega, and Dayton
• Attending the Sturgis rallies
• Alaska fishing trips
• Going on the annual Seligman motorcycle run
• And the list goes on….
Most of these experiences occurred after the age of 50. To Roy, age was never a factor in anything that he ever tried or accomplished. He believed that age was never a number, only a state of mind.
Roy made an impact on all those that he met. He never met a stranger and if he did, they were not strangers for long. Family was the most important thing to him, whether by blood or not. If wealth is measured by the amount of people that loved him, Roy passed away a very, very rich man. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Finally, the family asks that in honor of Roy and in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in his name to Ryan House. Please visit ryanhouse.org and click the donate button at the top of the page.
