Robert Arthur Melang, 84 of Sun City, AZ formerly of Wausau, WI passed away June 18, 2016. Born in Wausau Wisconsin to Gordon and Marion Melang September 24, 1931. Bob graduated from Wausau High School and served in the United States Army as a 1st Lt. As part of the 1-105th Armored Red Arrow Division, was deployed to Germany and also served at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He began his career at the Wausau Record Herald as a paperboy and moved up the ranks working in advertising sales, business manager, credit manager and retired as controller. While in Wausau he was active in community activities as Boy Scouts, The Wausau Art Festival, and Elks Club. After moving to Sun City he joined the bowling teams at the Sun City Rec Center, was an active NRA member and belonged to a local gun club, participated at the Sun City Elks Club and was an independent tax preparer. He had a love for hummingbirds, cats and all animals, my dad was also a great cook, he liked to experiment in the kitchen and entertain. Bob is survived by his wife Virginia (Kolbeck) Melang; daughters Katherine (Scott) Pieper of Merrill, Wisconsin and Deborah Melang of Sun City, Arizona, a sister Ruth (Carl) Stang of Appleton, Wisconsin along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and special close friends. Bob was predeceased by son Michael. Memorial service will be 9:30 a.m., Friday July 1, 2016 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N 103rd Avenue, Sun City, AZ. Interment to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
