Robert Johnston

Robert Joseph Johnston’s family gives thanks for his life – 84 happy, loving, and productive years. Bob was born on 8-24-26, to Joseph and Florence Johnston. He was raised in St. Paul, MN, and Grand Rapids, MI, and received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. He and Lois Liesch were married on 9-1-51, and together they raised and educated six daughters and one son, living in Minnesota, Kansas, and Texas, while Bob pursued a career in the petroleum industry. He was President of Derby Oil Co. in Wichita, KS, from 1981 thru 1985. The family is very proud of Bob’s leadership and accomplishments. Bob loved the Catholic Church and was involved in many charitable activities, the Republican Party, music and singing, golfing, fishing, educating, and inspiring people. Waiting in Heaven for Bob is his daughter Carol, who passed away in 1981 and son-in-law Bob Voss in 2005. He is survived by his beloved cherished wife of 59 years, Lois, his beloved children, Jeanne Irving, Mary Voss, Michelle St. Pierre, Geri Powers, Kathy Jones, and Paul Johnston, sons-in-law Earl Irving, Patrick Powers, Keith Jones, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, his sisters, Marilyn Chouinard and his cousin, Joan Schelling. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
