Robert (Bob) Hinderscheid, 82, a 25-year resident of Sun City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2016 surrounded by family. Bob was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1934 to Ed and Agnes Hinderscheid. He attended St. Mary’s High School in Akron, Ohio and his beloved alma mater Notre Dame University where he graduated in 1955 with a degree in accounting. Bob immediately started to work for Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and worked for Firestone for the better part of thirty years. In September 1955, Bob married Judith Labbe and in 1966, Bob moved his wife and seven children from Akron to Salinas, CA to take a promotion with Firestone to Accounting Manager. While in Salinas, Bob became a prominent member of his church, Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church, and headed up the building committee for the construction of the new church in 1972. He was also highly involved with local charitable organizations, especially the United Way where he served as chairman for a number of years, and was a member of local fraternal organizations. In January 1982, Bob married Helen Cook, who preceded him in death in 2014. Upon his retirement, Bob and Helen moved to Sun City, AZ where they lived for 15 years. Bob, as in Salinas, found opportunities to serve in his local church, St. Joachim and Anne Catholic Church where he served on their finance committee and Eucharistic ministry. Bob is survived by his children, Bob Jr. (Sue) of Salinas, CA, Jim (Darla) of King City, CA, Nancy Canavan (John) of Peoria, AZ, Dave (Cecilia) of Salinas, CA, Annie Hestand (Donnie) of Glendale, AZ, brothers Lee (Andy) Hinderscheid of Miami, FL and John (Sandie) of Murphy, NC, and sister Jean Powell (John) of Miami, Fl, step-children Donna Green, Debbie Knight, Jackie Mahoney and Danny Cook and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy, and two sons, John Michael and William Paul. A visitation will be held at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center in Sun City, AZ at 10am, followed by a short service at 11am. Thursday Oct 20th. Gravesite rites will immediately follow at Sunland Cemetery in Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or your favorite charity.
