Robert Edgar Caine, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on Monday February 11, 2013 at the age of 71. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at Turf Paradise, 1501 W. Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027. A memorial will be held in The Director’s room on the 4th floor. Father Greg Schlarb will be presiding, and will have a short prayer service – with some personal words – then this will be opened to anyone else wanting to speak. Bob’s ashes will be laid to rest with his parents, Edgar and Mary Caine, in Jefferson City, Missouri, Bob’s place of birth. Bob was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on March 17, 1941 to Edgar and Mary Caine. He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1959. He continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration degree from Central Missouri State University, and continued on to earn his Masters in Business Administration degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Bob was an exceptional athlete. As a basketball player he average 21.75 pts per game, and 13.4 rebounds his senior year. In 1959 he was named to the Missouri All-State High School Basketball Team, as well as, the Wigwam Wiseman of America, All-American Basketball Team. This organization no longer exists, and has become the McDonald’s All-American Team. Bob accepted a full ride basketball scholarship to Purdue University in the Big Ten Conference. During his freshmen year he was recognized as one of the up and coming players in the Big Ten by several basketball publications of the time. Bob later transferred to Central Missouri State University where he started for all four years. He is still one of the school’s all time leading scorers. He was later drafted by the Atlanta Hawk’s, but decided against a basketball future. In addition to playing basketball, Bob was also captain of the Central Missouri State golf team leading the Mules to the Conference Championships in 1961 and 1963. He also won the Missouri State Golf Championship in both 1963 and 1965. Bob graduated from Central Missouri State in 1965, and went on to earn his Masters degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management 1967. He eventually settled down in Phoenix, AZ where he spent the remainder of his life working in sales, and racing thoroughbred horses. Bob loved staying active. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, skiing, fishing, playing golf, and bowling with his friends. He was a horseman through and through. Throughout his life Bob owned and trained many thoroughbred race horses. This was one of his life’s great loves. He spent much of his time in recent years travelling between the racetracks in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California. Bob is survived by his son, Justin C. Caine, and his three grandchildren Reece, Kelly, and Summer. Bob and Justin have many great memories. Whether it was trout fishing at Lee’s Ferry, ATCing in the sand dunes outside Yuma, or skiing the Colorado Peaks, Justin and Bob enjoyed a good adventure. Bob is also survived by his cousin Glen Jourdan, as well as many friends who loved him.
