79, of Sun City, Arizona, and formerly of Owatonna, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday, December 28, 2012. Bob was born on March 4, 1933, in Faribault, Minnesota. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy in 1950 and attended Nazareth Hall Seminary before entering the Air Force, where he was a radar technician. After four years of service, he met the love of his life, Darlene (“Dar”) Svien, also of Faribault, and they were married on November 9, 1957. Together, they owned and operated Pofahl TV Sales and Service on Main Street in Owatonna for over 40 years. Bob enjoyed bowling, playing and attending softball games, painting, constructing scale models of buildings and gardening. Together with Dar, he enjoyed hosting and sharing his quick wit with their many friends in the Pofahl kitchen on Main Street. In 2002, Bob and Dar retired to Sun City, Arizona, where they enjoyed the warm sunshine and frequent visits of their daughters and families. Recently, Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but he continued to enjoy playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and entertaining family and friends. Bob is survived by his wife, Dar, of Sun City; their three daughters, Paula Hissam (Dewey) of Burnsville, Pam Lundell (Doug) of Plymouth, Pati Jo (“P.J.”) Pofahl (Charlie Nauen) of St. Paul; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, the last being born on the date of Bob’s death; siblings Earl (“Bud”) Pofahl, Viv Jones (Dick) and Joan Minke (Ray), and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Pat Bongers and Doris Karow. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice. A celebration of Bob’s life is being planned for mid-summer in Minnesota.
