Richard Paul Doherty, born August 24, 1942, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Sun City, AZ. He was the husband of the late Jane (Suplee) Doherty to whom, at the time of her death, had been married 47 years. Richard is survived by his daughter Deborah (Doherty) Reed and her husband James of Peoria, AZ (formerly of Abington, MA). He also leaves behind his granddaughter Jennifer Margaret Reed of Glendale, AZ (formerly of Abington, MA). In addition, Richard is survived by his nieces Kathleen Goldfarb, Patty Culhane, Theresa Taylor, Margaret Spain and Maureen Doherty, along with many grand nieces and nephews.
Richard was a proud member of the Navy for four years. He also was proud to have worked at Honeywell as an account manager for 40 years before retiring to Arizona. While in Arizona, Richard worked at many of the Sun City Recreational Facilities. He also up until this past year worked at Chase Field for the Arizona Diamondbacks and at Gila Hockey Arena for the Arizona Coyotes hockey team in guest relations. Richard was adored and admired, not only by his loving family, but around Sun City where he was known as “Mr. Socks” for his unique sock collection.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
