Rev. J. Landes

Rev. Howard J. Landes died peacefully at the Inn at Amethyst on February 26, 2015 in Peoria AZ at the age of 82. Howard is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Landes; and his children and their families, Bruce and Roxanne Landes of Phoenix AZ, Dean and Monica, Logan and his wife Lydia and Taylor Landes of Fountaintown IN, and Alan and Vicki, Tiffany, Cassie and Joshua Landes of Niagara Falls NY. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Landes and grandson, Andrew Landes. Howard was born on September 2, 1932 in Germantown, PA to Rev. Howard T. and Anona M. Landes. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1954 and Taylor University in 1956 with degrees in Biblical Studies and Philosophy. He married Wanda M. Hochstettler of Bluffton OH, his high school sweetheart, on June 19, 1954 and over the following 14 years they welcomed four children into their home. Howard was ordained in the Evangelical Mennonite church and began his ministry in 1956.  He faithfully served his Lord for over 40 years in numerous places, ministering at churches in Woodburn IN, New Castle PA, Farmland IN, Farmer City IL, Marietta OH, Hollandale MN, Pittsfield NH, Lake View NY and Berkey OH. He retired to Sun City AZ in 2002 where he attended and on occasion assisted at Covenant Presbyterian Church PCA.  In 2012 Howard and Wanda moved to Amethyst Senior Living in Peoria AZ where he resided until his death. A memorial is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, AZ with a reception to follow. Rev. Tom Troxell will officiate the ceremony.
