Raymond Twombly

December 31, 1969 — July 8, 2009

Raymond A. Twombly, passed away on July 8, 2009 at the age of 79 in Glendale, AZ, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Ray was born on August 24, 1929 in Sutton, VT to Carolyn and Ardyce Twombly, and was their only child. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Lida, and their three children: Rick Twombly, wife Terri; Allan Twombly, wife Katie; Karen Johnston, husband Keith; grandson Richard Twombly and surrogate son, Pete Zygmont, wife, Stacy. Ray and Lida were married on August 26, 1950 in Crestwood, NY. Ray graduated from Cornell University, with a degree in Agronomy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force. He was a very successful Golf Course Superintendent for many years, most notably The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT. He was also a Project Manager of numerous Golf Courses and Country Clubs. He retired from Sun City RV Compound in Sun City, AZ. A street in the compound was named Ray Drive in his honor for his years of dedicated service. Ray was loved by all and will be very much missed. Memorial Service will be held on Wed. July 15th, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at The Good Samaritan Society at 10323 W. Olive Avenue, Peoria, AZ. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of AZ at 2222 W.
