Glendale, AZ

Raymond A. Baca, affectionately known by those close to him as "Bacaruni," passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 29, 2024, in Sun City, Arizona. Born on June 13, 1938, in Leesburg, New Mexico, he lived a life rich with experiences, laughter, and love.

Raymond graduated from Colton High School and went on to have a distinguished career that included working as a steelworker Kaiser Steel in Fontana, California, and contributing his skills to Akal Security at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, as well as EG&G in Las Vegas, Nevada. His strong work ethic and dedication to his roles were indicative of his no nonsense, straightforward personality.

A passionate cook, Raymond took great joy in preparing traditional New Mexican cuisine, showcasing his culinary skills in meals infused with red and green chili. He took pride in making homemade tortillas and baking delicious apple pies. The holiday season was particularly special for him as he lovingly crafted tamales to share with family during Christmas and New Year’s. Family gatherings were a cherished tradition for Raymond, where he would enjoy the music of his brothers playing guitar and singing, filling the air with warmth and joy.

Raymond's hobbies and interests were as diverse as his personality. He found happiness on the golf course, immersed himself in books about history, and engaged friends and family with games of chess and cribbage. A lover of brain teaser puzzles, he relished the challenge they presented. Raymond also had a green thumb, finding immense satisfaction in gardening, and his delight upon harvesting his crops was a sight to behold. Not one to shy away from his passions, he enjoyed retrofitting his beloved 1955 Chevy and found fulfillment in his venture as a Thoroughbred owner and trainer, proudly entering horses into races at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico and Sunland Park in Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Baca; children Laura Baca and Anthony Baca; stepdaughter Isabel Amerman; and his brother Placido Baca. He is preceded in death by his stepson Alfred G. Paredez, jr and his grandson Shane Baca.

Raymond A. Baca leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
