Philip Joseph Allen, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 15, 2010. Phil, the third youngest of eight children, was born May 5, 1919 in Larimer, PA. He was an Engine House Foreman with the Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central for 34 years. After retiring from the railroad, Phil became a “Gentleman’s Farmer” in Smithfield, OH, until he fully retired, with his wife Dolores, in Sun City West, AZ in 1979. In Arizona, he enjoyed traveling, golfing and playing cards with his wife and friends. Philip was a member of the Free Mason’s for more than 50 years. Phil served as a member of the US Army Air Corp during WWII. For his service, Philip was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Star Devices and the Air Medal. Philip was preceded in death by his wife Virginia “Dolores” Allen, his parents and his brothers and sisters. He was the proud father of Terry (Pat) Allen, Philip Allen Jr., and Carol (Robert) Prochnow. He had five grandchildren; Major Robert Prochnow Jr., Susan (Keith) Knutson, Laurie (Alan) Doe, Christopher Allen and Margie Allen. His great-grandchildren will miss him dearly; Alexandra and Trenton Knutson & Liam and Ellie Doe. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to service on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Interment to follow at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City.
