Reverend Elvin Henry Marquardt Elvin Henry Marquardt was born September 12, 1923, in Canistota, South Dakota to Otto and Emma Marquardt and was called to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 92 on July 24, 2016. Elvin was the first of five children. Elvin's brothers: Leonard, Martin, Harold and Ronald helped run the family farm in rural South Dakota in their younger years. Upon finishing high school, Elvin attended and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1947. His vicarage was spent at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in St. Louis where he met his future wife, Priscilla "Jean" Kassebaum - the daughter of the Pastor there. They were married in 1949 and were married for 61 years before she passed away in 2010. The Lord blessed Elvin and Jean with four wonderful children: Judith (Judy), Linda, Mark and Paul. As they grew, they would be instructed in God's teaching and grew up knowing that Jesus Christ was their Lord and Savior. Elvin was a father to look up to. He was honest, caring, patient and humble. He had a great sense of humor which we all remember. He always made sure his children knew they were loved by both the family and their Heavenly Father. Pastor Marquardt served the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod for 65 years as a Lutheran Minister, accepting pastoral calls to churches in New York, Nebraska, Illinois and finally to Arizona. His last call was to be Pastor at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ where he served from 1983 – 1994 before retiring. After retiring he occasionally assisted at Atonement Lutheran Church here in Phoenix. He also enjoyed an occasional game of golf with his friends and tending to his rose garden. Elvin and Jean enjoyed many visits from their children and especially their grandchildren. Elvin and Jean had six grandchildren; Kristin, Kurtis, Alexa, Jessica, Luke and Joshua. Elvin was also blessed in recent years with two great grandchildren: Quinn and Reagan. Pastor Marquardt joins his wife, Priscilla "Jean" Marquardt (deceased 7/24/10) in heaven. His journey in life began over 92 years ago and ended on 7/24/16 when he was called home quietly. Those who knew and loved him are saddened by his passing but we rejoice knowing that he is now with the Lord. We all look forward to seeing him again when we will join him and all believers with our Father in heaven. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 15630 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, Arizona.
