Orest Moretti

December 31, 1969 — January 21, 2013

of Sun City, Arizona, passed away on January 14, 2013. He was born February 19, 1922 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the eldest child of Rocco and Maria Moretti. A member of the “Greatest Generation” Orie was a World War II Veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater. He served in the Aleutian Islands, and participated in the battles for Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was part of the occupation force in Japan following the war. He received the Purple Heart for grievous wounds suffered at Tarawa. He married Jeanne Charlevoix on May 15, 1946. They raised four children in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, where Orie operated his business, Orie’s Radio & TV Service, for over 35 years. While in Pewaukee he was active in the American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Pewaukee Lion’s Club, and the Knights of Columbus. Orie was an avid ham radio operator for over 70 years with a call sign of W9LHW. He retired to Sun City in 1992 where he was active in the Early Bird Lion’s Club and the Wisconsin Club. Orie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanne in 1978, and a brother Alfred. He is survived by his children Jay Moretti of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, Patricia Burrough, of Bellaire, Texas, Mary Morey, of Naples, Florida and David Moretti, of Wakefield, Rhode Island. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister Eleanor Jaquet, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a brother John Moretti, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, a sister-in-law Luna Moretti, of Sun City, and a good friend Gerilyn Cheyney, of San Diego, California. Funeral services for Orie will be held at St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Interment will be at a later date in Wisconsin. The family wishes any memorials be directed to the Lion’s Foundation of Arizona, 3124 E. Roosevelt Street, Suite 3, Phoenix, Arizona 85008.
