Melvin (Mel) Schilcher, Sr.

Melvin (Mel) Mathew Schilcher Sr. of Surprise, Arizona, passed away at Avenir Memory Care on Saturday, January 1st, 2022 at the age of 90 years old. Melvin was born in Aniwa, Wisconsin on July 18th, 1931 where he was raised by his father and mother, Edward C. Schilcher and Emma Cora Barth and was one of six children. He later moved to Milwaukee where he met the love of his life Marilyn Schilcher. Together they raised six children. Melvin worked as a truck driver and enjoyed much of his time at Shawano Lake, with his family. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always making us laugh! Mel overcame many obstacles in life, as he was one of the strongest men we knew. In the late 1980’s Melvin and Marilyn decided to retire to Sun City, Arizona where later four of their children would move too. Melvin is lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years and three children, Marlin G. Schilcher (Darcie), Monty J. Schilcher, and Michelle A. Schilcher- Weber (Edward); he also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Melvin is proceeded by his parents and five siblings, Marlyn Schilcher (Marilyn), LaVerne Schilcher-Rygiewicz (John), Emerson Schilcher (Phyllis), Lyle Schilcher (Margaret), Murl Schilcher-Lorrig (Ray); along with his three sons Melvin M. Schilcher Jr, Mark E. Schilcher, and Michael A. Schilcher and his beloved dog Cookie. Although, Mel has left us, he will be truly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
