Matthew Nedella

87, of Sun City, passed away Feb. 4, 2014. Matthew was born in Selfridge, North Dakota on Dec. 28, 1926 one of thirteen children born to George and Mathilda Nedella. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine of his siblings. Surviving family members include his wife of 63 years Esther, sons Lynn and Rick, daughter Tana (Robert) Reschke; grandchildren Tara (Chris) Bobic, Brent (Nicole) Nedella, Erica Nedella, Patrica (Tom) Plum & Jordan Nedella; great-grandchildren Tanner Bobic, Addison & Asher Plum and Jesse Nedella. Brothers Anthony (Fay), Jerry (Mary) Nedella and his sister Eva (James) Dulany also survive. Matthew joined the Marines in 1942 at the age of 17. Following his discharge, he joined the U.S. Air Force retiring after 20 years of service. While stationed in France he was able to visit the military cemetery at St. Avold where his oldest brother Leonard Nedella was buried having been killed during WWII in 1944. Matthew retired after ten years at Moon Valley High School and spent 20 years in Bullhead City, AZ. Due to health reasons Matthew & Esther moved to Sun City in 2005 to be closer to family. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
