Mary Ellen Crandley Vadus was born on June 1, 1938 in Philadelphia PA. She worked in
banking until she married her husband, Norbert Vadus. The couple lived in Philadelphia before
moving to Minersville, Pennsylvania where they began raising their two children, Ellen and
Matthew. Mary Ellen was a devoted and much loved mother, grandmother and aunt.
After their children were raised, Mary Ellen and Norbert retired to Wickenburg and then later to
El Mirage, Arizona. In El Mirage, Mary Ellen was a supporter of Luke Air Force Base and the El
Mirage Police Force. She loved long walks with her dog Jake and enjoyed cooking for her
family. She spent happy hours watching the hummingbirds who came to her many feeders.
Mary served as a block watch captain and was known to many as the "soup lady" who brought
homemade soup to neighbors and friends who were ill or grieving. All who knew her loved her
generous spirit and her sense of humor, both of which were still in evidence even as she
became terminally ill.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Crandley, her beloved sister,
Susan Heaney, brother-in-law, Dewey Heaney and her husband of fifty-seven years, Norbert
Vadus. She is survived by her son, Matthew Vadus, her daughter, Ellen McCrea, her
grand-daughter, Claire McCrea, her nieces Susan and Jenny Heaney and her great-nephew
Kevin Heaney.
Services will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania at the location where Mary Ellen's parents
and sister were interred.
