On October 22, 2013 at 6:05 P.M. Mary Greer Randel passed away. Anyone who knew Mary well knows that she did not limp slowly into the afterlife, but went boldly forward onto a new adventure. Mary lived a life of adventure -- she crossed our great country back and forth on rail lines; she helped to heal our Veteran's when they returned from World War II, Korea and Vietnam as a nurse in the Veteran's Hospital; she decided, in her 40's, to return to school to earn her Bachelor's degree; she left her lifelong home in the midwest (Ohio) to retire in the middle of the desert in Sun City. Like every other part of her life Mary found adventure in retirement. She did silvercraft, was an avid rock hound, an award winning bowler, a leather artist, and spent much time volunteering to help make life in Sun City great for all. She was a great friend and a great mentor. In everything she did Mary was a success. To borrow from the well known poem: She laughed often and much. She won the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children (she will be sorely missed by Elizabeth, age 8). Though people may have disagreed with her at times, she surely earned the appreciation of honest critics. She appreciated beauty in people and in nature. She always found the best in others. She absolutely made the world a bit better and many have breathed easier because she lived. She was a resounding success and she will be sorely missed.
