Margaret Harris-Smith

Margaret Rose Harris-Smith was born June 15, 1949 as an identical twin to Elmer andEverleana Smith in Glendale, Arizona.  She met and married Andrew Harris and to this union 4 children were born.   She then obtained her GED to attend college.  She attended Maricopa Technical Community College and became a Certified Nurse Assistant. She then achieved her certification for LPN and her degree for a Registered Nurse.  Margaret worked in the nursing field for over 30 years.  She has worked all around the valley and has been accredited with opening several new Emergency Room Departments. Margaret also worked as a school nurse for RooseveltSchool District where she later retired in 2010.  Margaret was a Matriarch to many different families.  She was known as "Mama" to her children's friends and "Granny" to her grandchildren’s friends.  She had many friends and was loved by everyone.  Many thought of her as the life of the party.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Elmer and Everleana Smith; 4 brothers, Elmer Smith Jr., Richard Smith, Jim Eddie Smith and Rufus Smith. She is also preceded in death by her son Kroman Harris.  She is survived by 6 siblings; Brothers Nathaniel Smith, MacArthur Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Felix Smith and Luther Smith of Salem, OR. Sisters: Mary Watson (identical twin) of Surprise, AZ and Marilyn Shellmon of Peoria, AZ. She is also survived by her sons Andrew LeRoy Harris, Vincent Harris (Ali) and daughter Clarissa Harris all of Glendale, AZ; 11 Grandchildren, Celicia, Rosalie, Christopher, Valeana, Jacquala, O'Shay, Vincent Jr., Marjoree, Ali, Florissa, and Kruma.  She had 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1401 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, Arizona.
