Lydia Victoria “Vicki” Newberry passed away at the age of 87 on May 10, 2022, at Nicolette Assisted Living Facility in Peoria, AZ. Vicki was born on October 30, 1934, in Clintwood, Virginia, the daughter of Leonard Fleming and Hattie Counts Fleming Edwards and stepfather Garland Edwards. Vicki married Furl Newberry on March 6, 1954, in Clintwood, VA and they were married for 53 years until Furl passed away in 2007.
Vicki was a hard-working woman all her life. She raised 6 children and was a homemaker in Virginia until she moved west to settle in Arizona in 1984. Vicki always loved spending time with family and friends, dining out, shopping, and being on the go. She loved Southern Baptist style worship and enjoyed bluegrass music. She loved to bake cakes and brownies to share with loved ones and in her down time loved to read and watch her soap operas and TV shows; she likely never missed an episode of Days of our Lives. Vicki was loved by many, and she returned the love tenfold.
In addition to her parents, Vicki was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Furl Collins Newberry, her two daughters, Linda Karen Newberry Rowsome and Rita Ann Newberry Deel, brothers Everett Wayne Fleming and Sidney Ray Fleming, her grandson Michael Deel and her granddaughter Melissa Deel. Survivors include her daughters Janet Sue Newberry Artis and Teresa Gail Newberry Lackey (Terry, spouse); her sons Roger Alson Fleming and Jeffrey Allen Newberry (Christine Newberry, spouse), her sister Nada Johnson (Jack, spouse), brothers Gary Edwards (Harriet, spouse), Bobby Darryl Fleming (Sue, spouse); granddaughters Victoria Milhoan, Valerie Clark (Charles, spouse), Rebecca Arenstein (Jesse, spouse), Leigh Ann O'Quinn (Adam, Spouse), and grandson Zachary Newberry; great grandchildren, Lydia Gonzalez, Justice and Warner Milhoan, Emily and Jeremiah O'quinn and Jayden Deel and many loving extended family members and friends.
A small family service will take place on May 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N 103rd Ave, Sun City, 85351. We will have a minister led service followed by a celebration of life complete with southern style food and bluegrass music, just the way Vicki would have wanted it, good food and family togetherness. Those who wish to send flowers or cards can send items to the funeral home directly.
