LaVerne Ruth Elchlinger

March 29, 1921 — March 15, 2025

Sun City, Arizona

In memory of LaVerne Ruth Elchlinger (Shively - Redlin)

An angel came and called her name and took her by the hand. She said her place was ready in Heaven far above and she had to leave behind all those she dearly loved. So when tomorrow starts without her, don't think she is far apart, for every time you think of her, she will be right there in your heart.

Her family wants to thank those who provided the compassionate care she received, especially from Hospice Promise, Meals of Joy and Arcadia Home Care formerly Life Style Options.

LaVerne was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Ruth and Joseph Shively on March 29, 1921 and passed away in Sun City, Arizona on March 15, 2025. LaVerne was the beloved wife of John Elchlinger, deceased 2006. She dearly loved life and people. LaVerne will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was a devoted mother to son, Thomas Redlin (Linda) and daughters, Cheryl Mowinski (David-deceased), Lana Owens (Brant), & Debra Ryan (Daniel).

A loving and affectionate grandmother of seven - Steven, Bradley, Rachelle, Sherri, Jonathan, Jason & Tony.

LaVerne was also a proud Great Grandmother of seven - Ashlyn, Alex, Veada, Ezra, Chloe, Kaitlyn & Jenna. LaVerne is survived by many dear Nieces and Nephews and their families, whom she loved very much. She is proceeded in death by her brother Earl Shively and his wife, Alice.

LaVerne moved to Arizona in 1979 from Garfield Heights, Ohio where she was employed at Union Commerce Bank from 1974 to 1979 and previously the Nobil Shoe Co. for 16 years. She was past President of the Ohio Ladies Police Auxiliary #16 of Garfield Heights, Ohio where she also served as Secretary and Treasurer in the Lodge for many years.

When LaVerne moved to Arizona she was employed at Lawrence International Travel Agency in Scottsdale sharing working hours by the side of her loving husband, John. They worked together and shared many friends in the travel business. LaVerne finally retired, but remained active in her Sun City Condo group, Sabre Court, serving voluntarily as Chairman, Secretary and Historian for over two decades.

LaVerne’s family meant the world to her. She never missed a holiday or birthday celebration. She was the original CARD lady - never missing the opportunity to acknowledge these occasions with family and friends. LaVerne & John enjoyed traveling and discovering the beauty of the Southwest together. LaVerne had a green thumb for gardening and loved watching the birds. She leaves behind her precious kitties, Red and Blackie, who spent many an hour snuggling, while at the same time, keeping her on her toes.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating the life and her 104th birthday of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother at a Funeral Service to be held on March 29, 2025 at 11am at Menke Funeral and Cremation Center. A viewing will be held from 9:30-11am with a luncheon following the service.
