Laura Golder Napier, 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, in Sun City, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her brother, and her parents.
She was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from the Henry Clay Frick Training School for Teachers and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for one year in Pittsburgh, followed by a twenty-five year career in New Concord, OH.
She was a long time member of the College Drive United Presbyterian Church in New Concord, where she was an elder, Sunday school teacher, and superintendent. She worked with youth in Presbyterian churches in Knoxville, TN and Sterling, KS, as well as the National United Presbyterian Church Youth Caravan Program. After retirement, she became an active member and leader at Faith Presbyterian Church of Sun City, AZ, participating in study classes, Presbyterian Women, Koininia small group ministries, and the prayer chain.
Laura's community service included P.T.A., Women's Forum, New Concord Garden Club, and the Sun Air Chorus of Peoria, AZ, which entertained at care centers and nursing homes.
Laura is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Cain, M.D. Dr. Russell of Rochester, NY, and Marjorie Bryan Dr. Lawrence of Martinsville, IN; three grandchildren, Christine Cain Jennifer Huffman, Dr. Mark Bryan Eleni Papaleonardos, and Alexa Bryan Potts Riley; and one great granddaughter, Celia Addison Potts.
Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ, on Wednesday, September 24th at 1:30 pm with a graveside service in New Concord, OH on October 10th.
