Kenneth P. Powers, former President of the Sun City Homeowners Association, passed away on January 9, 2012 in his room at Royal Oaks Lifecare Center, Sun City, AZ at the age of 101. A lubrications engineer with Gulf Oil Corporation for many years, Powers held an MS degree from Pennsylvania State University, worked 3 years for Rio Tinto in Spain, and lived in Arizona for the past 33 years. Well known in Sun City for his volunteer travelogue programs, Powers had many hobbies, including fishing, photography, silversmithing, woodworking, electronics, gardening, and birdwatching. His wife, Maurene Jones Powers, also a resident at Royal Oaks, passed away in 2001. Survivors include their daughter, Janet M. Powers of Gettysburg,PA; grand-daughters Shanna Gemmill Adler of Harrisburg, PA and Heather Gemmill Muratore of Fredericksburg, VA; great grandchildren Corwin Wade Adler, Chloe Gemmill Adler, Grace Elizabeth Muratore and Nicholas Muratore; and nieces Marilyn Latham Potash and Elaine Latham Martin. A memorial service will be held in Gettysburg at a later date.
