John Sorensen

John K. Sorensen 5-30-1941 – 2-11-2020 John K. Sorensen, Sun City, AZ passed away on 2/11/2020 of heart failure. His wife, Sheila was by his side. John was born in Refugio, TX, he was a graduate of Tyler High School, Tyler, MN, a graduate of Grandview Jr. College, Des Moines, IA and a graduate of U of M, Mpls., MN. John worked for Sears Management in Mpls, MN and Chicago, IL for 25 years and retired in 1990. He retired from the Navy in 1998 as a Chief Petty Officer, after serving 24 years – 2 years active duty and 22 years in the Naval Reserve Unit – Great Lakes, IL. In 2003, John and his wife, Sheila moved from Schaumburg, IL to Sun City, AZ for the winter months, summer months were spent on their boat on Lake Michigan and later in a home in Crivitz, WI. In 2015, John and Sheila became full time residents of Sun City. Hobbies for John were motorcycling w/friends, golfing, boating, hunting, trap shooting, fishing, traveling and most of all, his 2005 CORVETTE. He was an avid fan of all football and basketball events. John was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks, the American Legion, the Sun City Corvette Club and a volunteer with the Sun City Prides for 10 years. John is survived by his wife of 56 wonderful years, Sheila (Schardin) Sorensen. He could always make her laugh and put everything in perspective. Other survivors include his brother, Tom of Fort Mill, SC, Tom’s wife, Valerie, and their sons, Christopher and Trever and his wife, Heather and their two children and nephews, Joshua Schardin of Sanibel Island, FL and Matt Schardin, Albany, NY. John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. and Evelyn Sorensen and his in-laws, Elmer and Fern Schardin. A memorial service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sun Health Foundation, 14719 W. Grand Ave., Surprise, AZ 85374.
