Shawver, John H. 90, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on December 5, 2011. John was the youngest of four boys born to Ida List Shawver and John E. Shawver in Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived all his life. John’s lifelong passion was farming. He had a gift for taking a raw piece of ground and turning it into a beautiful, productive, field of cotton. As a young man, he and his brother Jack started Shawver Brothers, a tillage business, which eventually evolved into Shawver Farms. He developed numerous acres of farmland in Haraquahala, Aztec and Yuma. For a part of his life he even traded sitting on a tractor for sitting on the back of a horse owning several cattle ranches in the Kearney area. John was still actively farming Medjool dates in Yuma, Arizona at the time of his death. John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda and his daughter Patricia S. Tucker, son-in-law Mark J. Tucker and Granddaughter Johnna E. Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Clarence V. “Cliff” Shawver, Everett V. Shawver, and W.N. “Jack” Shawver. Private services honoring John were held previously at Resthaven Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to Menke Funeral & Cremation Center. The family requests donations to be made in John’s name to Hospice of the Valley.
