John McManus

John Patrick "Pat" McManus, Patriarch of the McManus Family was called home Wednesday 4/26/2017 at age 89 years of age after a short illness. Pat most recently called Sun City, Arizona home, but previously while his children were growing up they lived in Farmington, New Mexico; Ignacio, Colorado; and Orange County, California. Known as "Pat" by all, he attended Mass daily and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul serving lunch to the needy for years. He was a proud Irishman, attending every Irish event possible. He helped establish the Four Corners Irish Club in Farmington, New Mexico, participated in many Irish parades, and took several trips to Ireland. He also made a trip to the Holy Land in 2011 and the Vatican in 2009. Pat joined the California State Guard at 14 years old and was posted at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, then joined the Navy at 15 years old and participated in Operation Crossroads and experienced both the Atomic Bomb tests Able and Baker. He also served his country well in World War II in numerous battles and operations in the Pacific. Pat never met a stranger, was quick with a joke, words of encouragement, spiritual inspiration and uplifting advice. He had a great memory that held a vast wealth of information, loved history and shared it all. He touched many lives in a positive way and was ready with a few bucks for the person in need. He will be greatly missed. Pat was predeceased by his wife Teresa, and all his brothers and sisters: Mike, Dan, Diane, Peggy, Betty, and Mary as well as a dear, close friend, Gerard Smith Jr. "Smitty" who predeceased Pat by only a short time. Pat leaves behind 5 children: Ellen Purtill and husband Pat (Glendale, Arizona;) Dan McManus and Hildegard (Salt Lake City, Utah;) Ann and husband Dana McGarrh (Farmington, New Mexico;) John and wife Sarah McManus (Glendale, Arizona;) and Tom McManus and wife Michelle (Londonderry, New Hampshire.) Pat is also survived by 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren: Monica, Adam, Blaise, Travis, Teresa, Christopher, Ashton, London, Nick, Tatum, Haley, Seamus, Ryan and Kealin. Services will be held on Saturday, May 27th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Clements of Rome, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ.
