John Knopp

JOHN KNOPP passed away on December 22, 2017 at the age of 95. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He joined his beloved wife, parents, 3 older brothers and younger sister who had gone before him. John was born and raised in Winona, MN, and spent his school summer breaks helping his grandmother on the Knopp farm. During World War II he served in the army 585th Signal Depot Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. In 1950 he married his wife Yolande in Longview WA, and in 1954 graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He moved his family to California in 1958 where he worked for Bendix Pacific as a design engineer, and eventually became Supervisor, Systems Engineering Process Computer Section, Industrial Control Department for General Electric. He transferred to Phoenix in 1977 as Senior Project Manager International Operations-West Process Management Systems Division for Honeywell, retiring in 1986. John loved to work with his hands and was always designing, making and fixing things, usually having several projects going on at once. He also loved being outdoors, working in his yard and garden and growing beautiful flowers for Yolande. He is survived by his 7 children, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego CA.
