John Blunt

December 31, 1969 — March 7, 2014

John H. Blunt, 82, of Sun City, AZ entered into eternal peace on March 3, 2014. John was born in Litchfield, MN to Rueben and Hulda (Hoffman) Blunt on January 23, 1932. He was raised in Litchfield and obtained his diploma in Arkansas. He served in the US Air Force and is a Korean War and Berlin Crisis veteran, having received various medals and honors during his military service. After his tours of duty he married Esther S. Smith in 1963. He and his wife shared over 50 years together. John worked for the MN Department of Transportation where he was committed to the safety of others and retired after working for 33 years. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Sun City, AZ where they have resided for the last 14 years. John enjoyed keeping up with world affairs, history, watching movies, and loved anything to do with airplanes, especially WWII planes. As a young boy he wanted only to be a farmer when he grew up but at the age of 8 his dad took him to the airport to see some planes and from then on all he wanted to do was fly and be around airplanes. By law he was not allowed to fly solo until the age of 16. He got started flying at the age of 14 and on his 16th birthday obtained his private pilots license. He was thrilled with being able to fly solo from that time on. He is a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City. He is a caring and compassionate person evidenced by his many years of service as an ordained elder in the Presbyterian church and his many hours of volunteer service at Banner Boswell Hospital. John is preceded in death by his parents Rueben and Hulda Blunt of Litchfield, MN and his grandparents David and Margaret Blunt of Litchfield, MN. His grandmother, Margaret, was born in Ireland and immigrated to this country. John is survived by his wife, Esther S (Smith) Blunt of Sun City, AZ; Ken and Dee Custer of Sun City, AZ, 2 special people that he loved as his children; 1 brother David and his wife Carol Blunt of Litchfield, MN; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. He is also survived by his beloved friend and companion “Andy”, his Shitzu pal. The memorial service will be held at Wooddale, 18616 N 99th Ave., Sun City, AZ at 10am on Saturday, March 22, 2014.
