Joanna Burton

Joanna Burton was born on October 1, 1945 in Glendale, Arizona to Ellameege and John Burton. She had 2 older Brothers, Robert and Jerry. Joanna joined her parents and brothers on December 4, 2024. 

Joanna graduated from Glendale High School and went on to attend Arizona State University and finished in 3 years, then continued her education at NAU where she earned her Masters. 

Joanna taught school and coached for nearly 30 years in the Glendale School District. Even after she retired, she continued to volunteer coaching softball and various sports at several different High Schools in the area. Joanna loved softball and even coached her own youth team called the Naturals! She was a major booster for the ASU softball team as well and a member of the Arizona Softball Hall of Fame. 

Joanna is preceded in death by both of her parents and brothers. Her surviving relatives are her Sister-in-law Suzanne Burton, Jerry’s widow. Her Nephew’s Jerry Burton Jr. of Olympia WA, and Ryan Burton and wife Dannel of Surprise. 

Services will be held at Menke Funeral Home on January 25, at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow in their hall behind the Funeral Home.
