Joan Schiedel

Joan Frances Schiedel, 86, passed away on July 8, 2020 in Youngtown, AZ. She is the widower of James Leo Schiedel. They shared 60 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2016. Born in Miller, SD, she was the daughter of Herman and Helen Schaefers. Joan was the fifth of twelve siblings: Lois, Ambrose, Doris, Monica, Maxine, Phyllis, Raymond, Barbara, Constance, Ramona, and Sandra. She graduated with a diploma of nursing from Saint John's School of Nursing in Huron, SD. Joan was employed at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, IA as a registered nurse until she retired. She is survived by her children: Craig Schiedel, Pat Schiedel, Linda Schiedel, Karen (Geno) Littlewood, Jan (Janice) Schiedel and Nancy (Bill) Liephardt; grandchildren: Grant, Tiffany, Amber, Simon, Casey, Alex, Leigh; great grandchildren: Jesse, Alissa, Ariella, Jaslynn, and Jackson. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband James, her parents, sister Phyllis and brother Ambrose. Joan was a member of the Saint Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City, AZ. She was always up for an adventure, loved to travel, and spend time with family. She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith. A Celebration of Life was held on July 13, 2020 in Youngtown, AZ with immediate family. Her interment is to be scheduled for a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, James Schiedel.
