The Life of Herbert Lee Robertson, Jr. Sunrise: September 29, 1944 - Sunset: August 30, 2011 Herbert L. Robertson Jr. was born on September 29, 1944 to Phoebe (Edmundson) Robertson and the late Herbert L. Robertson, Sr. in Providence, Rhode Island. He is the oldest of three children. He was educated in the Public School Systems in Providence, Rhode Island. After graduating Herbert joined the U. S. Marine Corp and Reserves from 1963 to 1969 completing his service with an honorable discharge. He worked for the BIF Industries in West Warwick, Rhode Island where he worked his way to supervisor of the electrical department. He was medically retired after working there for 23 years. Herbert was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church for 44 years where he served as choir member of four music ministries, as an Usher and Trustee. On August 7, 1967 he met and married Ellen-Jean Patterson. They gave birth to three sons from that union. Herbert Lee, III, Christopher Anthony, and Kevin Noel. He also is the grand father of 9 beautiful girls. Taylor Marie, Amber Aubre, Summer Lee, Nishea Mailee, Destinee Elle, Trinitee Rayne, Genesis Analycia, Brooklynn Sherelle and Laila Jordon . His sons and granddaughters are the absolute joy of his life. He also served on many civic organizations throughout Providence. In 1975 he was appointed Commissioner of the Advisory Committee on Community Development by the Mayor. He also served on the Volunteer Fire Fighters in Providence for nine years. He was an Executive Board member of the West End. Community Center and served in that capacity until his illness in 1997. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also honored as Father of the Year in 1976. After relocating to Surprise, Arizona, Herbert joined the Palm Vista Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir whenever he was able. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Interment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona.
