Harvey W. Rosen, 87, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Correa of New York, NY, and a son, Michael Stubbs (Cindy) of Agoura Hills, CA., 4 grandchildren, Natasha and Marc Correa of New York, NY, and Ilana and Elizabeth Stubbs of Los Angeles, CA. A sister, Joyce Lockwood (Jeff), and four nephews, David and Steve Brodsky, Scott and Eric Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Sylvia, and a son, Marc Rosen, and his sister Flora Brodsky.
Harvey was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Cleveland High School. He attended Ohio State University. He served in the US Army for two years before starting his climb in the retail sector. Harvey started as a stock boy in Cleveland, and was promoted multiple times due to his work ethic, smarts, and common sense. He became Merchandise Manager for Gold Triangle in Florida, then President and CEO of Handyman in San Diego, Ca. Under his leadership, Handyman was awarded the “Homecenter Store of the Year”. He succeeded in taking the company public in 1986. Harvey, with an investment partner, purchased the 100 store chain, Liquor Barn, in 1988. He worked as a consultant after Liquor Barn, and was CEO of Standard Brands in Los Angeles. After retirement, Harvey couldn’t stop working, so he accepted a job as a Casino Host at Pala Casino in Fallbrook, Ca. After ten years there, an employee of the year award, he retired and moved to Arizona. Along the way, Harvey contributed time, money, and his executive skills to many charities, Big Brothers and Sisters of San Diego, and the ADL of California. Both charities named him “Man of the Year” during his service.
In retirement, Harvey with his wife Chris, moved to Arizona, traveled, and enjoyed trips with friends. One of his favorite trips was a hiking trip to Tuscany in Italy with stops at vineyards and wine tasting along the trails. Multiple trips to the wine counties of California were also top of the list. If you gave Harvey an afternoon of football, a bottle of wine, and potato chips, he was a happy guy. He lived life to the fullest. Loved meeting and entertaining friends, and relatives. Thank you all for loving him. Give a toast, CABS being a favorite, to Harvey.
