Harold Van Loozenoord

Harold was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served many years on light houses throughout the Michigan seaboard. He married Sib (Vos) on November 1, 1950. To this union they were blessed with three daughters: Sandra in 1952 (sons Tyler DeRuiter and Justin Krista), Linda in 1955 (sons Joshua Williams and Colin Williams), and Julie in 1958 (sons Travis Callas and Brandon Callas). They moved to Pella, Iowa shortly after marriage due to job opportunities for Harold in car sales and selling Singer Sewing Machines door to door. Due to hard times, they returned to Grand Rapids where Harold entered the printing business where he mastered numerous printing presses. While in Grand Rapids, Harold was active with the Grand Rapids Ski Club. Harold and Sib and family were faithful and active members of the Fourth Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. In 1964, the family moved to Denver, Colorado for job opportunities once again. They became members of First Reformed Church. Harold’s love of skiing found him an opportunity to start a Ski Patrol at a small private ski resort called “Ski Idlewild” that wanted to become public, thus the need for a volunteer ski patrol on weekends. Harold recruited as many friends and relatives he could find that could ski, or who wanted to learn how to ski so this patrol could be established offering first aid to first time skiers. Harold and Sib truly enjoyed outdoor activities, often taking their grandsons camping throughout Colorado. In 1975, along with other member of First Reformed Church in Denver, they were extremely instrumental in sponsoring a family who had just left Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. A beautiful lady, Mrs. Nhung and her eight children: Sa, Quang, Duc, Bao, Rubi, Rin, Malaya, and Vi. All of the children excelled in school. Harold and Sib moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1990 and were instrumental in developing a church with the help of the newly found friends, as a church of the Reformed or Christian Reformed faith was not available close by. They eventually found a permanent building and restored a bank building into a church, now known as West Valley Christian Fellowship. He picked up the game of golf once they moved to Arizona and would play at least three times a week until recently. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Minnie Van Loozenoord, and his brothers Wayne and Eugene. Harold leaves behind his beloved wife Sib, married 69 years and 5 months, their three daughters, six grandsons, and nine great-grandchildren.
