Gertrude "Gerry" Patrenos

December 31, 1969 — September 1, 2016

92, of Peoria, AZ, passed away on August 29, 2016. Gerry was born on January 14, 1924 in Phoenix, AZ. She grew up in Tempe, AZ and graduated from Tempe Union High School. She went on to graduate from Good Samaritan Hospital's Nursing School and moved to California to be near the ocean. She loved the ocean! Gerry met her husband, Francis (Pat) Patrenos while working in southern California and soon became an"Army wife", traveling to many posts with him, including Japan, where one of their five children was born. Pat retired after 22 years of service that included WWII and the Korean War. The family eventually settled in Phoenix close to Gerry's extended family. She worked as an OB nurse at Maryvale hospital for several years until she became a nurse at Holiday Park Elementary school in the Cartwright district. She and Pat were faithful members of Bethany Bible Church in Phoenix where they made many wonderful friends. Her beloved husband passed away far too soon in 1985. Gerry retired a few years later and eventually moved to Sun City where she fit right in with her new neighbors. She had always loved to garden and had beautiful flowers wherever she lived. Her garden in Sun City was amazing and neighbors were always stopping by to admire it. She had so many friends and was loved by all, especially her children and their families. Gerry is survived by daughters, Faye Stancill (Mark), Sandy Saxton (Dan), Cathy Patrenos (Kirk Neiberger), Lauri Strawn (Terry) and son, Greg Patrenos (Flo). Grandchildren, Jason Stancill, Eric Stancill, Tansey Cregan, Larissa Strawn, Seth Strawn, Meret Patrenos, and Sherri Dodgson. Great-grandchildren, Alex, Cassidi, Drew, Evann, Oliver, Kendra and Ty. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 PM at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center in Sun City.
