Geraldine "Dean" M. (Broad) Zappella, 82 of Sun City, Arizona and formerly of Hopedale, MA died on the evening of December 18th, 2012 at Boswell Hospital in Sun City. She was the wife of Angelo B. Zappella. The couple observed their 57th wedding anniversary on May 28th, 2012. She was born in Bury St. Edmunds, England on June 25th, 1930, the daughter of the late Jessie M. (Cowell) Broad and William C. Broad. She attended schools in England and lived there until moving to the U. S. in 1955 to marry her future husband, whom she met while he served in the Air Force, stationed in England. While living in Hopedale she worked as a bookkeeper and also assisted her husband at Hopedale Country Club, as well as lab technician for Dr. Ragonese, optometrist in Milford and did custom art framing for Janan Gallery. In 1992, she and her husband retired to Sun City. She enjoyed time spent with her family, and was an avid reader and gardener. She especially loved working in her rose gardens. She also enjoyed painting and musical theatre. She loved animals, especially her dog Rusty and cat Boots. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Sun City. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Anthony Zappella and his wife Patricia (Pond) Zappella of Uxbridge, her grandsons, Brian Zappella of Allston and Jeffrey Zappella of Uxbridge, her brother-in-law Joseph Zappella and his wife Carolyn of Uxbridge and her sisters-in law Mrs. Lena (Zappella) Fino of Uxbridge and Mrs. Alba (Zappella) Salgueiro and her husband Daniel of Spring Hill Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Menke Funeral & Cremation Center,12420 N. 103rd Avenue, Sun City, Arizona 85351. Condolences may be left by visiting www.menkefuneralhome.com. Cremation took place and a memorial service will be held at the Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel on Thursday, January 3rd at 11 o' clock am. Burial will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice .
