George Prater

George Henry Prater was called home by the Lord on August 9th at his home in Sun City, AZ with his loving wife, Bettye, stepson Chris and sister in-law Vonnie at his side. George was born in Tucson, AZ on July 24, 1940. Leaving Tucson in 1971, he owned and operated G. & P. Food products for 26 years in Corpus Christi, TX. He & Bettye married in 1987, in Portland TX and returned to AZ in 1997, where he spent 9 years as manager of Big K Ace Hardware in Youngtown, AZ. He and Bettye shared their love of the outdoors with their many fishing, hunting, golfing and camping trips in their 21 year marriage. He is survived by his wife Bettye Warren Prater, and stepson Christopher Harris of Tempe, AZ. George is also survived by 3 children in San Antonio, Texas; Suzanne Boggess, Lisa Koxlen and H. Michael Prater, along with six grandchildren. George will be remembered by his many friends and greatly missed by his devoted family through marriage to Bettye. Vonnie James Myrick, Micky Debbie Warren, both of Portland, TX, Ricky LannaWarren of Corpus Christi, TX, and BillyDebbieWarren of Angleton, TX, a11 of whom loyally supported George in his long battle with cancer. George also had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews in Texas. The family wishes to thank their many friends, neighbors and Ace Hardware co-workers, Mayo Arrowhead staff, Mayo Hospital Transplant staff and Hospice of the Valley for their care & support during George's illness.
