Evinda Johnson

January 12, 1926 — June 19, 2019

With great sadness, we announce that Evinda (93) passed away on June 19, 2019 in Sun City West, Arizona. She is no longer physically with us, but will forever be in our memories and hearts. Evinda Onis (Ramstad) Johnson was born January 12, 1926 to Arthur Archibald Ramstad and Thora Mathilda Ramstad in Minot, North Dakota. Evinda was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Minot. Childhood and college friends called her Vicki. She discovered a lifelong passion for writing when she worked as a reporter for the Ward Country Newspaper. Vicki attended Concordia College and graduated from Minot State College. After Graduation she worked as a Social Worker for Ward County. On December 27, 1948, Evinda was married at First Lutheran to Ensign Harvey James Johnson of Burlington, North Dakota. Harvey and Vickie’s first home in San Francisco, CA was followed by many moves in connection with Harvey’s first vocation as a career Naval Officer and later as a Good Samaritan Society Elder Care Administrator. Exploring the outdoors by camping or motor homing was a hobby both Harvey and Vicki loved. They relished their later retirement years in Sun City West and Surprise, Arizona. Over the years, Evinda was active as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader and in volunteer work with Navy Relief, Red Cross and Mental Health. She served as a Choir Member and Soloist, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Partner and President of SAMI (Spokane Alliance for Mental Illness). Vicki loved to read, write poetry, travel, and entertain. She taught a class for health professionals called DART (Depression Awareness Recognition and Treatment) and also worked on Washington State legislation to provide funding and support for people with mental illness. Vicki is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harvey, daughter Pamela Hibbert (David) and son David Johnson (Dorothy). She delighted in her 4 grandchildren: Brian Hibbert, Michael Hibbert, Kyra Johnson and Audra Johnson. She was predeceased by her son, Steven Johnson, and sister, Sylvia Evangeline (Ramstad) Monicken. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2019 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
