Ella A. (Mordt) Winter Ella Winter was born Ella Alma Mordt on August 8, 1915 in the Camp Branch vicinity of Warren County, Missouri (near Hawk Point) to Henry and Meta (Winter) Mordt. She passed away quietly in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 26, 2010. Henry was a Klondiker who climbed the Chilkoot Trail and mined for gold in the Yukon Territory. He raised his many daughters with a strict hand to keep them from becoming like the women he saw in the gold camps. Ella flourished in a large extended family of neighbors and relatives, all descendants of immigrant German farmers from the Principality of Lippe-Detmold (Germany). In 1939, Ella married F. Edward Winter. Together, they attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. Through the years, she helped Ed with his Chiropractic practice and raised a son and daughter. The family only recently learned that although she never practiced herself, Ella had graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Ella enjoyed amazing good health throughout her life, and attributed her great health to being married to a chiropractor. During WWII Ella proudly contributed as a Rosie-the-Riveter on the Curtiss-Wright Airplane production line. No matter where Ed and Ella lived, Overland (St Louis) and Owensville in Missouri, Glendale and Sun City in Arizona, Ella’s home was the stopover for good food and hospitality for friends and family. She had a special ability to speak her mind, yet never say an unkind word to anyone. Ella was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. F. Edward Winter, she is survived by a son Arthur Winter (Emily Wilson) of Scottsdale, Arizona, and daughter Eloise Roberts (Gary) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Steve Winter, Anne Murray, Peyton Woodyard and Devon Nelson. 7 great-grandchildren. Remembrances to Zion Cemetery Association of Truxton, c/o Glen Winter, 200 Prairie St, Truxton, Missouri 63381. Services will be held July 23 at 1pm, Zion United Methodist Church, Truxton, Missouri.
