EDWARD DOLLIVER HOLMES, JR passed away on October 6, 2019. He was born August 16, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward Dolliver Holmes and Helen Elizabeth Holmes. He was their third child and only boy. Having two older sisters was a cross for him to bear, but he took it in his stride managing to quietly ignore their sisterly advice.
Even as a little boy, Ed was always interested in the church and church history. He graduated from college with a teaching degree and taught in Ohio for a few years.
It was not long before he went back to school, eventually earning himself a PHD degree and the right to become Dr. Edward Holmes. He was rightly proud of his scholastic achievements that earned him the ability to teach at a number of colleges.
When his mother had a stroke and needed care, Ed moved to Sun City and supervised her care until her death.
Ed’s greatest joy came from learning and from his association with his church, All Saints of the Desert, and from the many parishioners he called friends.
Ed sold his house in August of 2018 and moved to Sun Valley Lodge where he soon developed strong friendships. The staff at Sun Valley provided Ed with the care and concern that he needed as his health declined. He was very happy there.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City, AZ.
The Lord is his Sheppard, he shall not want. And he will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever.
