Edward Hamer

of Peoria, AZ passed away August 27, 2012. Ed was born March 20, 1918, in Chicago, IL, he was the 5th of 5 boys and 7th of 9 children born to Enos A. Hamer and Elizabeth V. Hamer (Phelan). He was preceded in death by wife Rose D. Hamer (Deckert) July 19, 2011 and his parents. Survivors include his children Robert Hamer and Patricia Bauer; his grandchildren: Kara Janelle Hamer, Michelle Marie Maitland and Kimberly Ann Wilkins; 2 great grandchildren and 1 sister Sue Orkild. Ed was a proud veteran of The U.S. Army and served at the Normandy Landing, Omaha Beach in June, 1944 as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged as a TEC 4 in the 330th Regiment of the 83rd Combat Infantry Division across Europe. Ed was a devout Catholic and member of the Church of St. Joachim and St. Anne, Sun City. In Chicago he was a Grand Knight of Glenview Council #3731 of the Knights of Columbus. Ed retired after 35 years as the Vice President and Manager for the Peelle-Richmond Company (an international supplier of elevator accessories) in Chicago in 1982 having already moved to Sun City, AZ where Ed and Rose spent most of the next 30 years. Ed had worked at Peelle from the time he left military service in December 1945. They resided most recently at Casa del Rio Senior Apartments. Ed was a kind, gentle, caring and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor and a ready smile usually accompanied by his latest joke. He had many friends and living relatives and he used his computer until the end to stay in touch. He and his wife Rose were happily married for 70 years and he missed Rose greatly during the past year. He will be interred next to Rose at the National Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. The family asks in lieu of flowers or gifts that a donation be made to Hospice of Arizona, Plaza del Rio IPU, 12740 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd., Peoria, AZ 85381 in Ed’s memory.
