Edward Goldberg

December 31, 1969 — March 31, 2018

May 3, 1937 - March 29, 2018 Edward (Ed) Goldberg was a man full of travels. Born in Brooklyn, New York May 3, 1937. He attended Erasmus H.S. where he played inner-city school basketball. Being 6'6" he was a perfect pick for the team. As a young man of 18 he tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. He made the team, but due to an eye injury was cut from the team. In search of more travels Ed joined the U.S. Air Force where he spent 20 years travelling the world and earning his Bachelor degree, and Master's Degree. After retirement from the Air Force he and his wife Gwen moved to Colorado and worked for Martin Marietta (Lockhead Martin). In time, they both ended up in Surprise, AZ where both Ed and Gwen enjoyed the "fun in the sun". After 3 years in Sun City, Ed was widowed by his wife of 47 years. He continued to travel the world and in time met his sweetheart Ann McGrath who cared for him to the end. He is survived by his daughters Sally Steffen, Sharon Gaare (spouse Steve Gaare), and Samantha Goldberg-Blackthorn (spouse Dylan Goldberg-Blackthorn). He enjoyed being a grandfather to Sam Gaare (wife Jennifer Gaare), Sarah Unger (spouse Nick Unger), Benni Montano, Kyjah Saladino, and Song Hoff. Ed lived a great life and long enough to know his great grandchildren: Garett Gaare (15), Megan Gaare (15), Logan Gaare (10), and Orion Vancleave (3). Ed had an amazing spirit and was always ready for the next adventure. His favorite hobbies were: playing poker (he was even in the world series of poker), volunteering with the Surprise Sundancers and the Elks Lodge, stamp and coin collecting, and mostly lounging around the pool or going for ice cream!
